Bill Weber – WHYY
OTT refers to the delivery of video content over the internet to viewers who can access it on a wide range of devices including computers, tablets, smart-phones, streaming boxes and internet-enabled TVs and Blu-Ray players. Major OTT content providers include YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, VUDU, and Amazon.
What is the role for ISPs like Comcast and Verizon, who cannot control what OTT content producers send through the internet to viewers. Can their on-demand offerings compete or are they reduced to simply being “pipes to the internet”?
Nick Gold, Director of Business Development for Chesapeake Systems and the evening’s presenter, believes traditional broadcasters need to have a presence in Over-the-Top content delivery if they are to grow.
