DTV – Lessons Learned

Mark Schubin and Pete Putman will discuss the state of the delayed DTV transition from both the broadcaster’s and the public’s point of view. Mark will also give a brief recap of NAB2009.

A tour of WHYY’s engineering center will be available following the formal presentations.

Mark Schubin, Technology Journalist
Multiple-Emmy-award-winning SMPTE Fellow Mark Schubin has been working in television since 1967, writing about it since 1976, and chairing the Technology Retreat program since 1997. He worked on Japan’s first regularly scheduled HDTV broadcast, Kazakhstan’s first news network, and Hong Kong’s first cable-TV system. He has also worked on standards ranging from the VU meter to digitally compressed video transmission to the national TV system of Barbados.
Peter Putman, ROAM Consulting, LLC
Pete Putman is president of ROAM Consulting LLC in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He provides training and product testing/development services to manufacturers of projectors, monitors, integrated TVs, and display interfaces. In addition, Pete edits and publishes, a fast-growing Web site focused on digital TV, HDTV, and display technologies. He has written extensively on HDTV and display technology for numerous consumer and trade magazines, and is a frequent speaker at major trade shows and technical conferences including CES, NAB, the Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat, and InfoComm.
